2019 Rudd Estate Proprietary Red Reg $349.99 Sale $299.97

The 2019 Rudd Oakville Estate Proprietary Red opens with an intense sweet spice nose, fully of vanilla bean, and subtle savory anise tones. Rich plum and dark cassis harmoniously balance the spice with the refined essence of purple flowers, dried green herbs, and graphite stemming from the addition of Cabernet Franc to the blend.   Blend: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc

95 Points Wine Spectator This has a nice deep well of warmed cassis and plum puree flavors, threaded deftly with a sweet tobacco hint that adds nice contrast. Shows a pretty backdrop of violet and singed alder on the finish. A deep, slow-moving but confident wine. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

95 Points Decanter  Winemaker Natalie Bath has crafted a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon balanced by 7% Cabernet Franc, exuding the elegance of better Oakville sites and the depth and complexity possible from this AVA. Leads with ripe blackberry fruit and a dusting of pulverised red stones, along with a panoply of dried wild herbs. The medium-bodied palate reveals a lovely mix of wild berry fruit framed by sinewy tannins and resolving with tobacco, crushed cocoa nibs and a tangy blood orange acidity, all gliding to a spicy finish.

95 points James Suckling! A pinpointed red with currants, cherries, plums, chocolate with walnut undertones. Medium to full body. Creamy tannins. Attractive length. Blend of 93% cabernet sauvignon and rest cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

Rudd's 20th Anniversary!

2019 marks the 20th vintage for Rudd Estate, and what an incredible growing season to coincide with this special anniversary year. This 2019 Estate Red comes from their 48-acre vineyard in the eastern side of Oakville. It is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon with 7% Cabernet Franc and aged in 100% French oak, 30% new French oak. As winemaker Natalie Bath explains, “The 2019 Rudd Oakville Estate Red opens with an intense sweet spice nose, full of vanilla bean, and subtle savory anise tones. The purity of fruit exhibited embodies an elegance in this wine — plush in nature, building in complexity and depth as the wine evolves. Mirroring the fruit on the nose, sumptuous summer ripe plums and black cherries show prominence on the entry, punctuated by a burst of red currant freshness. An earth and gravel-driven nature creates a striking aspect to the wine, present both in the volcanic mineral taste and the fine dusty texture, adding to the already powerful mid-palate core. Rounding out the finish is an exhilarating hint of graphite and dark cocoa with a slightly sweet and unending firm tannic finish. This wine will develop and age gracefully over the next 15-20 years.”
